Orthodontist cares about more than just your smile

Dr. Allan Phillips

Getting to know his patients enables Dr. Allan Phillips to establish trust before the work begins.

Those who know Allan Phillips, have come to expect a man who is sincerely interested in the well being of every person he meets, not just his patients. Community volunteer, sports team coach, concerned citizen, proud dad, active in his profession and empathetic friend are traits that serve him well in his chosen field: Family Orthodontics.

His philosophy is “…the most critical part of patient care is treating each patient gently and with compassion, with the goal of assuring absolute accuracy and minimizing treatment time”

To put them at ease, Dr. Phillips invites children, parents and adults getting braces for the first time to become his partner in the process. They know that they have a say in the schedule and treatment plan and are vested in doing what is needed to have the smile that is perfect for them.

Allan Phillips hails from Brooklyn. He trained at NYU Dental School in Family Practice Orthodontics.

Soon after, he found himself in the US Air Force as a Captain. He was stationed in Orlando and settled there after he left the service.

Ready to start a family, he moved back north to enjoy small town living in New Milford. He is exceptionally proud of his 3 accomplished sons with his late wife.

Dr. Phillips was honored to be the first chief of the Orthodontics section at Danbury Hospital- a post he held for 25 years.

Treating children is his passion. The best part of his day is seeing the kids smiles. Knowing they are happy is very satisfying. Dr. Phillips said he is fortunate to do something he loves and being able to help people. Patient satisfaction and knowing he is doing his best is a matter of personal pride.

On a first visit, patients of all ages are apprehensive because they don’t know what to expect. Dr. Phillips takes the time to patiently explain the process and encourage questions.  Children are especially encouraged to express what is on their minds. Parents appreciate his attention and children like being the center of attention.  They are encouraged to talk about their lives and are especially pleased when their own orthodontist occasionally shows up at their game or school play.

His colleagues have recognized his abilities by consistently voting for him on Connecticut Magazine’s list of top dentists (specialty: Orthodontics.) Even more important, he is the orthodontist of choice for his colleagues children.

Dr. Phillips says he likes to treat people the way he wants to be treated. He believes in working hard and doing the right thing. People deserve a practitioner who does his best and who really cares.

He is very pleased in the way his career has unfolded.

Patients and families are enthusiastic when asked about Dr. Phillips, “Dr. Phillips treated my son who has autism. He became a much better patient than I expected because of Dr. Phillips.”   “My husband finally decided to get his teeth fixed. He is so happy he found Dr. Phillips. He is great.”

Treating patients unique needs is not uncommon for Dr. Phillips because to him, all are special and there are no cookie cutter treatment plans. He had a custom seat made so conjoined twins could be comfortable receiving their orthodontics. One of their visits was featured in a private film introducing the twins to their new classmates.

He met his current wife, Lori Ann about 5 years ago. He said she is the blessing of his next chapter of life.

When not working, the mutually supportive couple just enjoy being together. They play golf and tennis and will soon be embarking on a salmon fishing trip in Alaska.

Dr. Phillips is very active in the Greater Danbury Dental Society, having held the position of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. He has been Chairman of the Dental Health month, coordinating the activities for the entire state of Connecticut. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the CT State Dental Association. Mentoring is another source of pride.
