Legal Notice distribution needs changing
by Susan Winters
CT statute states that all legal notices must be distributed in a printed newspaper. Now that the local Redding Pilot is defunct, the town is searching for other outlets that fulfill the requirements.
Although it doesn’t fill the “printed” requirements, hello, Redding has always published the town legal notices so that our readership can be informed. For the past few years before the printed papers demise, hR’s readership was larger than the Pilot’s.
Print media is sadly dying and online media is the future. The statute must be changed to reflect this.
State Rep. Anne Hughes has proposed H.B. No. 6121: AN ACT PERMITTING THE PUBLICATION OF LEGAL NOTICES ON MUNICIPAL INTERNET WEB SITES.
To permit the publication of legal notices on municipal Internet web sites.
Here’s how you can help. Contract our new legislators and let them know that you are in favor of leal notices appearing on both municipal and community websites.
