REDDING, CT, May 10, 2018– On Saturday, June 9 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Alan and Helen Hermes Arts Series at the Mark Twain Library will present Sound Stories: Adventures in Music Improvisation. Sound Stories is a workshop that welcomes all ages and levels of experiences in a fun, engaging and interactive music making experience. Discover or renew your musical and creative spirit, get inspired, increase your skill and self-confidence in creating music with others, and explore music as a tool for expressive storytelling. An exciting array of instruments including drums, melodic drums, small percussion and ukuleles will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring along personal instruments for a day of celebrating story in sound.
Prior experience is not necessary, all are welcome. The workshop will be led by Mary E. Knysh, of Rhythmic Connections, a company that provides drum circles and music improvisationworkshops to organizations throughout the world.
Also on Saturday, June 9, at 7:30 pm the Library will host a performance by Mary Knysh, featuring her music partner Carl J. Chimi, who plays guitar and several other instruments in the improvisational style known as “Breeze.” Chimi has 50 years’ experience playing in a variety of genres, including rock, country, and western swing. Knysh and Chimi will be joined by master drummer, Maxwell Kofi Donkor, who is originally from Otumi, Ghana, and percussionist Ron Kravitz. The audience will be encouraged to join in.
